2025 MCKRE Gives Volunteer Week

By: Mary Cheatham King / 19 Mar 2025

WHAT IS MCKRE GIVES VOLUNTEER WEEK?
For one week in March, MCKRE focuses our efforts on five local organizations to spend our time volunteering, raising awareness, and encouraging our community to show their support, too.

See below for details of our 2025 MCKRE Gives Volunteer Week with links to make your tax-deductible donation to any (or all!) of these wonderful local charities!

MONDAY | CARTERET COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY

We spent our morning rolling up our sleeves, cleaning pet dishes and socializing with the adorable adoptable pets at Carteret County Humane Society. Not only were we happy to get sudsy to give these pets clean food dishes, socializing and cuddling was the BEST reward! The Carteret County Humane Society's mission is to protect, shelter, and promote the adoption of homeless animals. To see more of their initiatives and show your support, visit cchsshelter.com.

"Having community organizations like Mary Cheatham King Real Estate come out and volunteer with us is amazing. Having our community learn about our animals and interacting with them has a huge impact not only for the animals but the volunteers. They get a sense of how our shelter runs, what needs our animals have, and how to help them get adopted. Watching this organization help clean kennels and interact with our animals was a great experience, we could see how much they were loving volunteering and our animals! We could not function at the capacity we do without our amazing volunteers and there is something for any and everyone to do here at the shelter!" – Rachel Hardin, Manager

TUESDAY | CRYSTAL COAST HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

We swapped our morning meetings for team building (literally!). We spent Tuesday morning at Crystal Coast Habitat for Humanity's newest construction project on Mill Creek Road. We worked together to nail tar wrap around the home and had extra time to help create a shed for more storage in the backyard! We can't wait to see which family will get to move into this Newport home! For more details on volunteering your own time, making a donation, or showing your support by shopping at the Habitat ReStore, visit habitatcrystalcoast.org.

"MCKRE has become the team we rely on year in and year out to help us out for any need!  The staff are loyal, hardworking, caring and a pure joy to work with on so many of our projects -- they are the definition of volunteers!"  -Theresa Carter, Chief Operations Officer

WEDNESDAY | CARTERET PARTNERSHIP FOR CHILDREN

We had a magical time at Carteret Partnership for Children while co-hosting a St. Patrick's Day Party for littles ages 0-5! Parents and kids got to enjoy games, giggles, gold (chocolate, of course!), and create crafts to take home. The Carteret Partnership for Children's mission is to inspire and support young children and their families in areas including health, education, and childcare in order for children to reach their full potential. Visit CarteretKids.org to learn more about their programs and how you can get involved, too!

"Carteret Partnership for Children extends its heartfelt thanks to MCKRE Gives for shamrocking our little peoples' world with their help with our St. Patrick's Party. Thanks to the support of their clients, MCKRE team members will be bringing a dose of love, luck, and laughter to our children. Thank you for making our entire community feel like we'd found a shared pot of gold at the end of the  rainbow!" Juliet Rogers, Executive Director

THURSDAY | CARTERET HEALTH CANCER CENTER

We came together with big hearts and busy hands to put together comfort bags for the patients at the Carteret Health Raab Oncology Center. HUGE thank you to Brittany Kelley who is currently fighting through triple negative Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Breast Cancer for her tips on what items we should include — we could not have done it without her help!

We hope with these bags that we are able to brighten someone's day who needs it most. Carteret Health does so much for our local community, and we are so grateful for them! They are currently building a new Radiation Oncology Cancer Center and renovating the current Medical Oncology Cancer. This dedicated outpatient facility will be made possible by a significant investment by the Hospital and $10 million in philanthropy raised through the Accelerated Cancer Care Campaign. FRIDAY | HOPE MISSION OF COASTAL CAROLINA

We spent the afternoon dishing out warm meals, sharing laughs, and spreading kindness to those in need. It was a reminder that a little generosity goes a long way, and we want to get this on our calendar more often than just once a year. Full bellies, full hearts — that's what community is all about! Hope Mission provides food, shelter, emergency financial assistance, emotional support, mentoring, and counseling for local folks in need.
