We opened our doors in January of 2015 - ten years ago this month - filled with anticipation for the future. I had a dozen years of local real estate experience at a small boutique firm, but no idea what it would really take to open a small business, especially with a 5 year old and an 8 year old. The decade that has passed since has held tears and triumphs, nights without sleep and days filled with wonderful conversations and connections. Even with its ups and downs, it's been 10 years of pure magic.
Our team has grown to include the most incredible people, smart and funny, who strive to over-deliver at work while supporting each other in ways that span far beyond the nine to five. Our clients, the 2,184 families who have trusted us over the last 10 years to guide them, are the Big Why behind MCKRE. Whether we're helping them move away, taking their treasured memories of Carteret County with them, or eagerly introducing them to the things we love about our area as they settle into a new home, the gift of getting to know each client and tailoring an experience for them is the reason we can't wait to get to work every day.
In the pages that follow, we'll celebrate the last 10 years while we also look to the future. A bright spot on the horizon? Our Carteret County real estate market. While often times more inventory negatively impacts demand and therefore value, our local market continues to show incredible growth in value, even as there are more homes available. Carteret County ended 2024 with 72% more properties available for sale AND a 9% increase in average sales prices over the previous year. What does this mean for you? If a sale is in your future, you may net almost 10% more than the same time last year. And if you're considering a Carteret County purchase, get excited! The available options for you to choose from are far more robust.
We hear it about raising our children, but perhaps it applies to the life of a business as well - the days are long but the years are short. January of 2015 feels like yesterday. On 1/30/2015, I closed the email announcing the opening of Mary Cheatham King Real Estate by thanking the clients I'd been lucky enough to work with in the first part of my career for their friendship and support. As I close this note 10 years later, I am overwhelmed by the same sentiment. Our relationships with you, our clients, are the best part of who we are. Thank you for 10 years of building relationships - we are grateful for each and every one of you.
