Check out our video interview with this #girlboss duo HERE!
What brought the two of you together…as friends and as partners in the fashion biz?
Abby: We met in Charlotte when we both worked at an accounting firm. We quickly bonded over our love for fashion and fun. When Andie moved here to Morehead City, I quickly followed and we knew it was time to start our business. We started online in March of 2017 and moved into our storefront by June of that same year!
Andie: Helping women to find a new style, especially those that may think they are “too old” for our store. It is inspiring to teach our customers how to incorporate our clothes into their own wardrobe, and let them find the confidence they may not have had before setting foot into Côte Boutique. We love to put together outfits for someone wanting to explore or change up their style.
Especially for first time customers… What is the vibe of your store and your clothes, and what do they project?
Abby: Our store vibe is bohemian with Southern flair. We like a mixture of West Coast styles while preserving East Coast classic trends. We bring in brands from all over the world —from Australia, Paris, Los Angeles and beyond, so when a new customer walks into Côte Boutique, she can expect to find something different than anywhere else around here. We want our customers to feel beautiful and empowered when they shop with us, and even try something new! For us, Côte isn’t just a store. It’s a brand. We want our customers and audience to feel like they’re a part of the Côte family.
Who would want to shop here?
Andie: We have women from all different ages and backgrounds that shop with us! But when we buy for Côte, we think of a woman in her 20’s or 30’s that has lived life to the fullest and still has a lot more living to do! She can come to us for her friend’s wedding, and also for her vacation (wherever it may be!), as well as her casual weekend wear. We, of course, dress in Côte style every single day, so we know first-hand that the pieces last, and are sure to fit your lifestyle.
What do you predict are a few must-have items for the upcoming Fall Season?
Abby: We’ve already gotten a sneak peek at what the market for Fall looks like, and gingham and plaid are going to be hard not to notice! Those patterns will be everywhere, along with fabrics like corduroy, fuzzy sweaters, teddy coats, and velvet! Also, flare pants are here to stay for another season, so don’t get rid of yours!
Aside from the store itself, we know you are both very active in the community – from domestic violence, to beach sweeps to animal rescue. What is your BIG dream?
Andie: We love to help the community in any way we can! Shopping small gives us the resources to give back to the community we already know and love, whether it’s giving to local charities, paying local taxes, supporting other small businesses, and all the things you mentioned! Our BIG dream would be to grow into a national brand where we can have ambassadors all over the US, and eventually make our own clothes to go in other boutiques! We definitely want to grow our online community as well, and create a safe space for women to come and get style advice, creative tips, and connect with other women. We’re working on some really fun things to bring our online community this Fall so stay tuned!
