The feeling of nostalgia is strong on Atlantic Beach. The beaches, the swim shops and low slung motels that still populate the area are a throwback to simpler times and easy, fun family days spent strolling the shore for leisure. The Circle was once the place to be on Friday nights and beyond… go carts, pinball machines, a waterslide and ferris wheel decked in bright lights provided joy and amusement for all who headed to “The Beach”.
When the Oceanana pier was built in 1959, being able to spend time at the shore was a longed for and popular pastime, and Atlantic Beach had already earned a reputation for being an outstanding beach resort destination. Having a second home was a goal and a fantasy, too, any way to log hours sailing, swimming or spending time on the Crystal Coast was a win! That could mean the renowned Atlantic Beach Hotel or owning a sweet little trailer on the canal for the family to stay at. AB has changed and grown and now boasts fine dining, a cinema, a skate park and luxurious waterfront homes. The vintage vibe, however, remains the same with its unrivaled charm and enduring appeal.
The owners of 123 Sound Drive are in a prime spot to enjoy the water view, beach and boating lifestyle that they have both coveted since their youth. Being able to bike to The Circle or Beach Tavern, get an eye full of fireworks from their double-back-decks or sip sweet tea to their hearts’ content with neighbors they’ve known for years is a boon. They built the house to their liking, anticipating their wants and needs for years to come. Fitted with a fireplace, two docks with lifts, a huge deck with an awning to keep every day delightful and cool. In the winter, lounging outside here is the place to be… the sun keeps things warm. In the summer, it’s the perfect place to catch the salty breeze. Spend your days building sand castles or out on the boat and come back to your outdoor shower and watch the sunset fall over the canal. You can see a slice of ocean peeking out at the end of Charlotte Avenue, and the bridge bedecked in lights is a sight to behold as well.

With the canal outside your door, Bogue Sound a stone’s throw away and the sandy beaches easy to get to by golf cart or on foot, it was thoughtful planning, not luck that put this home here in a nestled and protected spot. With the sea wall there to help, too, these owners have never experienced flood waters. What they have gained is countless hours with friends and family. This home was built to foster this uncomplicated lifestyle of contentment and connection for all who enter, and to make memories that will last forever.
