When it comes to consistently good food, Floyd’s 1921 has been a constant and cornerstone of fine dining in Carteret County for over fourteen years now. A classic spot for Morehead City residents and beyond who have come to count on the cozy white house at the end of Bridges Street to serve up Southern cuisine, comfort food and hospitality in hearty portions.
Chef and owner Floyd Olmstead operates with the sole purpose to wow his customers with good times, a great menu and incredible value. Floyd believes people “eat with their eyes first”… and when your plate comes out, you will believe it! The generous portions provide plenty to share when you’re dining with friends and family or if you want to save some for later—Chicken & Biscuits, High Cotton Crab Cakes or Pimento Cheese Filet and Shrimp.

A blip in the trajectory of Floyd’s steady success was caused by Hurricane Florence. The end result was to rip the beloved house down to the studs. It became a blessing in disguise, however, and the forced renovation became an opportunity for improvement. A shift in direction for the bar added a more open feel, and the addition of a bourbon wall helped Floyd’s 1921 get a fun refitting. The exposed beams of the ceiling add a modern touch to the interior too, just one of the ways Floyd is able to evolve and keep up with the latest buzz and tastes.
Floyd’s philosophy is to support the local community, ordering directly from fishermen and farmers. He prefers doing business face-to-face and has established relationships with all the folks from whom he buys fresh. For his specials he incorporates new trends like Watermelon Salad with Chèvre and Candied Pecans or new favorites like the Scallop BLT.

What’s most important to Floyd and his wife and co-owner Shana is that their love of food, wine and drink is conveyed to each guest. They feel that everything in life is celebrated with food; from the rituals of eating meals to the importance and nostalgia of memories surrounding food and how powerful that is. Perhaps that’s why Floyd’s as a local restaurant, and as a destination venue, has customers that come back time and again for the same exact dish and remember it so vividly and ask for it by name. Floyd’s 1921 is most definitely a name we remember.
